I’ve never been so excited to not have my camera: King Crimson in concert

Getting ready to see King Crimson again tonight, first of two in Washington DC. So fortunate to be able to experience their shows six times this year. One great thing is that they have a very strict no photo or video policy, until the end where they take a bow — we can take pictures of them and they can take pictures of us.

As a photographer, it’s inherit that I like to capture everything. Concerts are no exception, and I’ve been happy with some of the shots. But, as the band announces in the beginning, “take pictures with your eyes and record audio with your ears… be present.” After seeing them over the summer, I couldn’t agree more.

I have never been so excited to be without my camera.

King Crimson live in Minneapolis

The boldest sounds I’ve ever heard in my life came from the King Crimson concert in Minneapolis. It was a long drive up but totally worth it.

Songs I heard before sounded brand new. It was the loudest show I’ve ever seen. The three drummers were outstanding. Most gentlemanly group of musicians. When it was loud, it was loud. But it also got silent.

I’ll have more to say after I see them in Chicago
